Electric pickup truck statistics show a market developing across several different vehicle definitions. In 2024, global electric light-commercial-vehicle sales exceeded 600,000, while electric medium- and heavy-duty truck sales exceeded 90,000; neither total is a pickup-only count, so model-level company data is essential for interpreting adoption.

Electric Pickup Truck Market Scale and Sales Growth
The global figures establish the boundaries of the market. The International Energy Agency (IEA) separates light commercial vehicles from medium- and heavy-duty trucks, and both categories include vehicles that are not pickups.
| Measure | Period | Result | Scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electric medium- and heavy-duty truck sales | 2024 | More than 90,000 | Worldwide |
| Year-over-year electric truck growth | 2024 vs. 2023 | Almost 80% | Worldwide |
| Electric share of truck sales | 2024 | Close to 2% | Worldwide |
| Electric LCV sales | 2024 | More than 600,000 | Worldwide |
| Electric LCV growth | 2024 vs. 2023 | More than 40% | Worldwide |
| Electric LCV sales share | 2023 to 2024 | 5% to 7% | Worldwide |

The IEA also reported that the number of available battery-electric truck models rose from fewer than 70 in 2020 to more than 400 in 2024. This model expansion covers battery-electric trucks broadly, not only pickup body styles, but it indicates a much wider product field than the sales totals alone suggest.
In the United States, electric LCV sales exceeded 25,000 in 2024 and grew 55% from 2023. That is a useful commercial-EV indicator, although vans and other light commercial vehicles are included alongside pickups.
Electric Pickup Truck Sales by Country and Truck Segment
Country comparisons are informative only when the vehicle class is kept visible. The following IEA figures use an electric-truck definition centered on medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, so they should not be relabeled as light-duty pickup sales.
| Geography | 2024 electric-truck sales | Measurement note |
|---|---|---|
| China | 75,000 | Medium- and heavy-duty truck category |
| Europe | More than 10,000 | Medium- and heavy-duty truck category |
| United States | More than 1,700 | Excludes many light-duty pickups |
| Canada | Almost 2,000 | Truck-wide figure |
| Brazil | Almost 500 | Truck-wide figure |

China accounted for more than 80% of global electric-truck sales in 2024, according to the IEA. The figure is a contribution to worldwide sales, not China’s internal electric-truck market share.
The smaller-country series also moved quickly: electric-truck sales in Japan, South Africa and Thailand together rose from about 130 in 2023 to almost 900 in 2024. India allocated USD 58 million over two years for electric-truck purchase incentives under PM E-DRIVE, but that is a policy allocation rather than realized pickup sales.
Electric Pickup Truck Adoption and Manufacturer Sales
Named-model results provide the clearest pickup-specific evidence in the supplied data. Ford reported 33,510 F-150 Lightning sales in the United States in 2024, with sales increasing 39% from 2023.
Ford’s broader electric portfolio provides context without becoming a pickup total. The company sold 12,610 E-Transit vans in 2024, up 64% year over year, and 51,745 Mustang Mach-E vehicles, up 27%.
Ford reported 285,291 electrified vehicles in 2024, up 38%, but that measure includes hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric vehicles. Its fourth-quarter 2024 electric-vehicle sales reached 30,176, described as the company’s then-best quarterly EV result.
The earlier Ford baseline was 72,608 electric vehicles sold in 2023, up 18% year over year. F-150 Lightning sales rose 74% in the fourth quarter of 2023, while all-powertrain F-Series sales reached 750,789 and increased 15%.

Electric Pickup Truck Production, Capacity and Deliveries
Production and delivery figures are company totals unless a named pickup is specified. Rivian produced 49,476 vehicles and delivered 51,579 in 2024, while fourth-quarter production was 12,727 and fourth-quarter deliveries were 14,183.
Rivian’s Normal, Illinois, factory had installed capacity for up to 150,000 vehicles annually at full rate and multiple shifts. Approximately 85,000 places were assigned to R1-platform vehicles and 65,000 to RCV commercial vehicles; the R1 allocation includes the R1T pickup and R1S SUV, so it is not an R1T capacity figure.
| Rivian 2024 measure | Result | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Production | 49,476 | Company-wide |
| Deliveries | 51,579 | Company-wide |
| Q4 production | 12,727 | Company-wide |
| Q4 deliveries | 14,183 | Company-wide |
| Installed annual capacity | Up to 150,000 | Normal, Illinois |
Rivian reported USD 4.486 billion in automotive revenue, USD 4.970 billion in total revenue and USD 477 million in software-and-services revenue in 2024. These measures distinguish vehicle-related revenue from non-vehicle services, but none is an R1T-only financial result.
GM delivered 7,428 Chevrolet Silverado EVs in the United States during 2024, including 2,176 in Q4. The 2024 total was 1,511.3% higher than the 461 delivered in 2023; the large percentage reflects a small launch-year base, and GM reported 443 deliveries in Q4 2023.

Electric Pickup Truck Range, Charging and Support Data
Range figures are estimates rather than guarantees of real-world travel. Ford’s 2024 model announcement gave the F-150 Lightning Flash a targeted EPA-estimated range of 320 miles, with actual range varying according to conditions and equipment.
Rivian reported 666 chargers in its Adventure Network at the end of Q4 2024 and 98% charger uptime. Those are network-specific company measures, not estimates for the entire public charging system.
The ownership-support footprint included 71 service centers and more than 600 mobile service vehicles in Q4 2024. Rivian also provided more than 27,000 demo drives during that quarter, an activity measure that does not establish purchase conversion.
Rivian reported that 86% of surveyed owners would buy a Rivian again in a 2024/2025 owner-satisfaction report cited in its Q4 2024 letter. Because this is a company-cited survey result, its interpretation depends on the survey population and wording.

Electric Pickup Truck Forecasts, Incentives and Market Limits
Policy and scenario data help explain why sales growth does not immediately translate into a large vehicle stock. In the IEA’s 2030 Stated Policies Scenario, electric trucks reach around 13% of global truck sales, but only about 3% of the global truck stock is electric because stock changes more slowly than annual sales.
For the United States, the same scenario projects electric medium- and heavy-duty truck sales at around 8% in 2030, up from below 0.5% in 2024. This excludes many light-duty pickup sales and is a scenario output rather than a realized forecast.
The U.S. tax credit for an eligible electric truck can be worth up to USD 40,000, although the maximum depends on program rules and eligibility and is not an average buyer benefit. The U.S. Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Grant Program had nearly USD 1 billion available in 2024, supporting heavy-duty vehicles and infrastructure rather than pickup sales alone.
The IEA also estimated that more than 10% of electric cars sold in the United States in 2024 were imported from Europe, while just under 10% each came from Mexico, Japan and Korea. This is electric-car supply-chain context, not an electric-pickup market share.
