Ford F-Series statistics show a truck family with broad historical reach, sustained U.S. market leadership, large-scale domestic production and sharply different capability levels across F-150 configurations. The figures below distinguish family-level sales from F-150-specific specifications, and observed results from manufacturer ratings or company estimates.

Ford F-Series Sales Statistics and Market Leadership
The F-Series is a family-level measure that includes F-150 and Super Duty models across Ford’s pickup lineup. That definition matters because the headline sales and leadership claims are not F-150-only measures.
Ford says the F-Series was America’s best-selling truck for 48 consecutive years through 2024 and America’s best-selling vehicle for 43 consecutive years through 2024. These are company statements based on cited industry sales data, not independently audited rankings in the figures presented here: Facts About Ford U.S. Manufacturing.
Ford also reports more than 41 million F-Series trucks sold worldwide from 1948 through 2024. This cumulative estimate has no model-by-model or country breakdown, so it describes the family at global scale rather than a specific nameplate or market: The Ford F-Series Truck Family.
The February 2024 U.S. sales release provides a more narrowly defined snapshot:
- F-Series sales were 51,829 vehicles in February 2024 in the United States.
- Year-to-date F-Series sales reached 100,531 vehicles from January through February 2024 in the United States.
- February 2024 sales were 5.8% below February 2023, while year-to-date sales were 8.6% below the same 2023 period.

Ford F-Series Sales Trends in 2024
The available 2024 observations show a large family-level sales base alongside mixed year-over-year comparisons. Ford reported 152,943 F-Series vehicles sold in the United States in Q1 2024, and described the family as part of its best-selling truck position for that quarter: Ford Hybrids, EVs, Transit Set Records; Q1 Sales Top Industry, Up 7%.
April adds another checkpoint to the same year’s trend:
- April 2024 F-Series sales were 64,568 vehicles in the United States.
- Year-to-date sales through April reached 217,511 vehicles.
- April sales were 7.2% lower than April 2023, and year-to-date sales were 9.4% below 2023.

Super Duty performance moved differently from the broader monthly comparisons. Ford reported that Super Duty sales, a subset of the F-Series family, rose 23% year over year in Q1 2024; the supplied release does not include a competitor-by-competitor table.
F-150 Lightning also had a distinct trajectory in Ford’s February reporting. It sold 2,578 U.S. vehicles in February 2024, up 93.0% from February 2023, while year-to-date sales reached 4,836, up 34.3% from the comparable 2023 period: Ford Motor Company February 2024 U.S. Sales.
Ford F-Series Production and U.S. Manufacturing Data
Production and sales are different measures. Ford estimated that nearly 1 million F-Series trucks were produced in 2024 at U.S. plants, while also stating that 100% of F-Series trucks sold in the United States were assembled in America during the stated year-end-2024 period.
Those figures describe production scale and assembly location, not the origin of every component. Ford’s manufacturing overview also reported approximately 2.1 million vehicles assembled in the United States in 2024, 80% of vehicles sold in the United States assembled domestically, approximately 57,000 hourly U.S. manufacturing workers, nearly 3,000 combined Ford and Lincoln U.S. dealers, and more than 170,000 people employed by that combined dealer network: Facts About Ford U.S. Manufacturing.
The broader plant footprint is not F-Series-only. Ford said F-Series and Ranger powertrain, transmission, stamping and final-assembly operations spanned 16 plants in four states in the first quarter of 2024.
Because the release groups the two truck lines, that count should not be treated as an F-Series-only plant total: Ford Hybrids, EVs, Transit Set Records; Q1 Sales Top Industry, Up 7%.
F-150 Towing and Payload Statistics
The 2025 F-150 towing guide reports manufacturer maximums for specified configurations. Towing and payload are independent ratings and are not simultaneous guarantees for every vehicle, trim or load.
| 2025 F-150 configuration | Maximum towing | Maximum payload |
|---|---|---|
| 2.7L EcoBoost V6 | 8,400 lb | 1,775 lb |
| 3.5L EcoBoost V6 | 13,500 lb | 2,440 lb |
| 5.0L V8 | 12,900 lb | 2,225 lb |
| PowerBoost hybrid | 11,200 lb | 1,815 lb |
| Raptor high-output EcoBoost | 8,200 lb | 1,405 lb |
| Raptor R | 8,700 lb | 1,410 lb |
Source: 2025 Ford F-150 Towing Guide. Ratings vary with cab, drivetrain, accessories and occupants; the Raptor payload figure is for the version with 37-inch tires, and some maximums require specified equipment.
The towing selector lists a 16,800-pound gross combined weight rating for a specified 3.5L EcoBoost configuration and up to 18,400 pounds GCWR for specified hybrid configurations. GCWR is the combined vehicle-and-trailer rating, not trailer weight alone or a universal limit.
Ford’s maximum-towing calculations specify a 150-pound driver and passenger assumption. That is a test-rating assumption, not a typical owner’s available payload.
F-150 Engine and Drivetrain Performance Statistics
Ford’s 2025 guide lists six engine choices, described as five gas engines plus the 3.5L PowerBoost hybrid powertrain. Each listed engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, although availability depends on trim.
| 2025 F-150 powertrain | Horsepower | Torque |
|---|---|---|
| 2.7L EcoBoost | 325 hp | 400 lb-ft |
| 3.5L EcoBoost | 400 hp | 500 lb-ft |
| PowerBoost hybrid | 430 hp | 570 lb-ft |
| 5.0L V8 | 400 hp | 410 lb-ft |
| Raptor high-output 3.5L EcoBoost | 450 hp | 510 lb-ft |
| Raptor R 5.2L supercharged V8 | 720 hp | 640 lb-ft |
Source: 2025 Ford F-150 Towing Guide. These are Ford ratings under specified test conditions, so they should not be read as direct measurements of every vehicle’s real-world output.
The range is wide: the 2.7L EcoBoost is rated at 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft, while the Raptor R reaches 720 horsepower and 640 lb-ft. The PowerBoost hybrid occupies a distinct position at 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft, but horsepower and torque figures alone do not establish fuel economy, towing experience or operating cost.
Ford F-Series History, Models and Electric-Pickup Statistics
Ford approved the F-150 name in product-planning records on November 21, 1973, and introduced the first F-150 model in 1974. That launch year makes 2024 the nameplate’s 50-year anniversary, a derived milestone based on Ford’s historical account: The Understated Debut of an Icon: Celebrating 50 Years of Ford F-150.
Ford’s 2025 guide says the F-Series had been America’s best-selling truck for 47 consecutive years based on 1977–2023 industry-reported sales. The later 48-year statement through 2024 uses a different reporting window, so the two claims should be retained with their stated periods rather than treated as a contradiction or independently reconciled ranking: 2025 Ford F-150 Towing Guide.
F-150 Lightning is an electric pickup reported separately as a memo line in Ford’s U.S. sales releases. It should not automatically be added to the headline F-Series row because Ford presents it separately in the release: Ford Motor Company February 2024 U.S. Sales.
For the 2025 model year, the towing guide lists Lightning maximum trailer weights of 5,000 pounds with the standard-range battery and 7,700 pounds with the extended-range battery, when properly equipped with the Max Trailer Tow Package. These are configuration-specific manufacturer ratings, not observed average owner results: 2025 Ford F-150 Towing Guide.
